Music at HVIS

Music is very close to the heart of what it means to be 'Irish'. Whether that's singing, playing, listening, performing, or dancing, music is an often vital accompaniment to activities at HVIS.

One Friday each month a group of our Members who perform together gather for an informal 'session' at the Club. While the membership of Shindig is well-established, newcomers are welcome, and participation is encouraged.

Over the years we've had a number of special 'evenings' or performances:

🕈 Barleyshakes (Alan & Kristin Kelly) performed in February 2025

🕈 One Friday in early December 2020 was 'Open Mic' night, but that's not quite the way it turned out!

🕈 Music is essential to a Ceilidh!

🕈 In 2015 we had performances by 'Salt & Pepper' and 'The Short Blacks' in a relaxed, informal setting.

🕈 Once in a while (not often enough for some!), we go 'traditional'.

🕈 We've even gone 'World' - well, at least Balkan.

🕈 Shaskeen Reel from New Plymouth performed in October 2010
